House Judiciary Committee Subpoenas Gonzales For More Documents in U.S. Attorneys’ Firings Scandal

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales was subpoenaed by the House Judiciary Committee this morning over his alleged failure to comply with repeated document disclosure requests looking into the U.S. Attorney firings scandal.

The letter from House Judiciary Chair John Conyers, with an attached subpoena, seeks “complete electronic information…responsive [to the Committee’s previous requests.”

It ups the pressure on the country’s lead federal prosecutor to turnover documents by no later than next Monday, April 16, 2007 — one day before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing where Gonzales is scheduled to testify under oath about his role and knowledge of events in the increasingly clear non-performance related, political motivated firings of career prosecutors after numerous complaints from GOP members of Congress were reportedly made to the White House.

The subpoena was served by Elliot M. Minceberg, the Chief Counsel of Oversight and Investigations for the House Committee on the Judiciary.
