In remarks to agents at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (’ATF’) today, U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales suggested that has no intention of resigning any time soon. Contrary to what many Democratic and Republican members of Congress have stated that they want to happen, the country’s top prosecutor promised to stick out his term with President Bush’s administration:
“I know that I have only 18 months left in my term as Attorney General, and that really does not feel like a lot of time to accomplish all of the goals that are important to me. So often Washington seems to run at a marathon pace, but I intend to spend the next year and a half in a sprint to the finish line.”
A carefully calculated choice words of by one of Gonzales’ speechwriters. No matter how deep and complicated the investigation by the Senate and House Judiciary Committees into politically motivated firings of career Justice Department federal prosecutors may go, no matter how many subpoenas he tries to avoid complying with, the Attorney General wants the American People to know that he’s sprinting like a Texas jackrabbit (inset, right) as fast as his little legs will carry him!
